Petrichor is the aroma of the earth when tempered with the first rain. This delightful scent of the soil is caused by the bacteria Streptomyces living in it. Bacteria keep soil healthy by cleaning up decayed plant material and are critical in the sustenance of the planet. Petrichor is the newest capsule of handcrafted jewellery by Maya, inspired by the little creepy crawlies that revitalize the earth.

One such little crawlie part of our collection is the dragonfly. Dragonflies are essential in maintaining the fertility of the soil while keeping it healthy. Being natural predators, they prey on mosquitoes, insects and help farmers minimize the use of pesticides. Come explore our collection and take home what you love!

Let’s take an exciting sneak peak into the process of the making of our Dragonfly necklace handcrafted by one of our master craftsperson Ramesh.

Here we see Ramesh linking semi-precious stones and gundis onto a very delicate zari thread following a technique of gundikaam. The tension in making the gundis has to be uniform and requires extreme diligence. A little extra tug and higher the chances of the thread breaking. Ramesh does it with perfection and that is why he is one of the best we have!
