Sustainability is not just about the environment. It examines the long term effects of the chemicals used in products and being consciously aware about the methods used in the manufacturing process. Consumers are shifting their purchasing decisions to create a cleaner environment not only through clothes, but also jewellery that they wear. Sustainability is a business approach to creating long-term value by taking into consideration how a given organization operates in the ecological, social and economic environment. The climate change crisis can only be tackled from a global perspective by promoting sustainable development.

At Mayabazaar, we make artisanal jewellery without any mechanization. It is completely handcrafted combining solid, premium semi precious stones using traditional techniques like charakkam, patwa and gundi kaam infused with contemporary work like crochet. All Maya products ensure a lifetime guarantee. We believe in the concept of repair and reuse, making a conscious effort of reducing our contribution towards landfill waste. Our jewellery repair workshop recently held at Baro, offered customers to bring in any of their jewellery pieces purchased at Maya that needed to be repaired. We work towards making sustainable jewellery that is meant to last you a lifetime. The longevity of our products is corroborated by patrons who continue wearing our jewellery purchased two decades ago.
Our products are made from raw materials that have a minimum impact on earth, without any toxic dyes, plastic or chemicals. We use wood, glass beads, brass nuggets that are organic in origin. Also, we avoid any kind of surface ornamentation helping reduce our carbon footprint. Each piece of jewellery is made with jute yarn and dyed with eco friendly chemicals like Azo. Mayabazaar allocates enough time for the maker to make the jewellery pieces and the handcrafting process to be completed. Ensuring fair wages and an ethical working environment, improves our worker’s quality of life leaving them content. We make seasonal, versatile pieces that can be worn in multiple ways.
The Petrichor line launched at The Table’s farm brunch, aimed at establishing a connection with nature. It intends to focus on the bugs and insects found in nature and their significance in maintaining the ecological balance. Our designs celebrate and bring out the sensitization to meaningful things in the environment. Our Africa inspired collection, is about celebrating the indigenous African culture. There is always a powerful memory or experience that resonates in the making of a collection.
