Khepri comes from Kheper – the ancient Egyptian god of the rising sun, the one who rolls the sun out every morning. Kheper’s face is depicted by a scarab beetle that is most famous for rolling balls of dung and seemingly emerging from it, being born without needing a female to do the job. Ancient Egyptians thus saw the scarab as a manifestation of Kheper, who represents creation and rejuvenation and sustaining the cosmos. Scarab beetles, called hprr in Egyptian were used in amulets and seals for thousands of years.
